With most modern Unices, there are different packages for simple use
and for development (typically, openssl, and openssl-dev). To compile
Subversion, you would need the development package as well.

(I find incredible that people could be stupid enough to ship a
Subversion package without SSL but it is another story. Follow-to
alt.flame.suse-sucks.)
