Can you set up per directory *authentication* in subversion? If yes,
how do you do that?
If not, then both the directories need authentication, don't they? You
might be *authorized* to access both the directories, but need to be
authenticated either way.

Similar scenario (unless I misunderstood the setup) works for me here,
does not matter which directory comes first in the diff command.
