We found that running Norton Antivirus was really slowing things down
during checkout. Turning off the "realtime protection" more than doubled
the checkout speed of a 4,000 file repository from about 5 min to 2 min.
If you are running antivirus software, try turning it off and see what
happens. We didn't test this for update though, so it may not make a
difference.
