And you said you can still get into the repository from the server
itself through the command line?

Since it was a hardware crash, I'd be looking at possible corruption in
both the repository as well as in the svn client files (command line,
mod_dav_svn, etc).

Have you tried to rebuild Subversion to throw new files out and about?
You can do this without affecting the repositories...
