Doh... I hate it when I miss obvious resources like that. :)

In any case it turns out that the problem was staring me in the face
the whole time - I managed to overlook the fact that the hook script
itself does not set a working directory. After taking care of that,
email notifications are happily notifying.

*kicks self*

Chalk it up to a delayed case of the Mondays or RDF hangover after
Jobs' "switcher" announcement yesterday, I suppose... :)
