Ah, well then you don't need to can everyone like I wrote earlier ;-)

seriously though, I find that it is very easy to get started with
subversion. If you don't have to switch from an existing version
control system it can be quite simple. The "copying to a shared
area" becomes a commit, copying from the shared area becomes an
update. That gets you 90% of the way there. (You can worry about
getting the structure of the repository perfect later.)
