Some companies have somewhat arbitrary rules on what can be installed
as a server. I was annoyed when I was told I couldn't install RedHat
as server boxes anymore. These days I am supposed to use SuSE SLES8/9
but I occassionally sneak a SuSE FTP version in. :)

Also there is the training issue. A Solaris shop recently told me that
they don't have the abilities of maintaintaining a Linux box and I was
there sitting my mouth wide open. Anyway, I didn't see SLES8/9
binaries for SVN in SuSE's FTP site or mirrors. It really doesn't
matter for me because I probably will compile it by hand when I need
it.

Binaries for Solaris might not arrive with some certain modules you
would like to use just as Subversion is actually a source product and
binaries are supplied by volunteers. I found Santosh's mail
interesting because I am thinking of tinkering with an Solaris x86 box
to see what's changed and my first rule these days is installing SVN
first to maintain my changes. :)
