svn commit; vi crashes when typing in the message

Hi,

I am using svn now for a couple of weeks and since yesterday I have
suddenly the problem that when committing something to the repository
with svn ci, vi crashes while typing in the message.

The error message is in German, so I translate it here and might not get
the exact wording correct:

        svn: Transmission failed (details follow):

Call of Editor 'vim -c 'set tw=72 et' svn-commit.tmp' returned Error 11

I am using svn 1.1.3 (r12730) and vi version 6.2.89.

Did anybody have this problem before?

Something messes up in the shell I used to do the call from then, when I
press enter there seems to be no newline and the command prompt is
appended to the previous command prompt.

I am not sure whether this is actually a svn problem or has something to
do with vi?

Vi works otherwise just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Guenter
