Checked out repository size

Hi,

I am currently not subscribed to the list, cc on reply
would be appreciated.

I am just getting started with subversion, coming over from
CVS and have several checked out copies of a largish tree.
I read in the subversion book that svn stores two copies of
every file in the checkout. As space is becoming an issue
with multiple checked out copies, is there a way to have
svn only store the checked out copy and simply use the svn
root when doing a checkin or diff.

Alternatively, can I hardlink two svn checkouts and work
with the trees separately. IE. have svn update only change
the one tree severring hardlinks as is necessary?

Tia,
Shane
