transaction and/or repository size limits??

I tried importing 'round 10G at once into subversion and it complained
about a filesize error and aborted. It didn't say how much, but I am
assuming it's the infamous 2G limit imposed by less-than-modern api's.
So, is this true? Is this limit only on transactions (in which case I
can split up my import) or also on the repository itself?
