That's not true. I am using the real Windows client under Cygwin
without any problems.

And it handles non-ASCII characters just fine, both in file names and in
log messages; I don't even have to set any LC_* or LANG variables for
that. (But then I'm using XP, which has much better Unicode support
than 98.)
