basic/new subversion questions...

hi...

new to subversion, and i have a few basic questions.

i'm creating an app and i need to have users add/modify files in a
consistent manner. i'm reviewing CVS/Subversion and other source apps.

i would like the ability to intergrate a subset of the repository
functionality into the web app that i'm creating. this would allow the user
to easily add/modify/etc the files within the underlying repository, without
having to use a separate web app/front end.

i'm looking to integrate a repository with a web app running
php/apache/mysql/linux. does subversion easily allow this kind of
integration to occur within a php webapp? also, does subversion use a db as
the underlying repository, or is it more or less based on rcs...?

perusing through the faq/docs hasn't given me an answer for these questions
(yet!).

also, in comparison to cvs, how easy/fast is it to get a working subversion
system up/running...

thanks for any thoughts/opinions/etc...
