Comparing branch and trunk development

We have large projects where it is normal to have multiple development
efforts going on as branch development, with scheduled merges back to
mainline (trunk) for continued development. Is it possible to perform a
"version compare" of the branch and trunk development? I am looking for
output that would result in the version of each object being used by branch
development projects, to estimate the amount of divergence that has
occurred since the project branched.
