You're absolutely right -- moving libsvn* out of /usr/local/lib prior to
building worked without a hitch. Now to figure out why that was happening in
the first place ...

When I encountered problems with the 1.1.0-rc1 build, I built a couple
different versions of neon 0.24.7, and ran into some problems with some of
the build attempts. Clearly, my suspicion was based on some pretty flimsy
hypotheses. : )
