[ANNOUNCE] Linux kernel tree mirror

From: Chia-liang Kao <clkao_at_clkao.org>
Date: 2004-08-19 15:18:15 CEST

Greetings,

I'm pleased to announce the mirror of the linux kernel tree from its
cvs export is now available at:

 svn://svn.clkao.org/linux/cvs

Web interface available at http://svn.clkao.org/svnweb/linux/log/cvs/

Courtesy to the nice and extensible VCP framework, the mirror is
history preserving, and will be up-to-date in the case that cvs tree
is available over rsync.

The mirror is done with:

svk mirror /linux/cvs cvsbk:/path/to/cvsroot:/linux-2.5/... --branch-only=trunk
svk sync /linux/cvs

The supporting code for cvsbk: scheme will be available on CPAN
shortly, and you will be able to do your own mirror if you wish to.

Needless to say, you could use svk to mirror the above url and create
a local branch for local development and submitting patches.

Some statistics: Using the fsfs backend, the size of the repository is
about twice of the 400M cvs repository; during the first-time
conversion the memory consumption goes from about 150M to 200M
maximum; subsequent incremental conversion takes about 5 min.

A full announcement will be made to the linux kernel mailing list
around the weekend with some faq answered, to avoid unnecessary flame
war.

Special thanks to xs4all.nl proving hardware and bandwidth for svk
development as well as such mirror service.

Happy hacking.

Cheers,
CLK
