svn locks

hi there,

I'm coordinating a project with a subversion (1.0) repository.
Since a couple of weeks ago it has become instable, i.e. it frequently
locks ('svn' calls lock, and even 'svnadmin recover' locks !).

What is a liely cause of this ? I read about trouble with db4 that
may be 'solved' by switching to fsfs in the next subversion release.
In the mean time, what can I do, what should I avoid, to work with
the current subversion setup I have ?

Thanks a lot,
                Stefan
