svndumpfilter memory usage? svndumpfilter "Aborted"

Hi

Has anyone else seen svnadmindumpfilter fall over due to what I suspect is
excessive memory usage? Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm doing a dump of a largish repository and it all works happily until
I get to a revision with a couple of 256Meg binary files in it:

* Dumped revision 509.
Revision 509 committed as 509.
* Dumped revision 510.
Revision 510 committed as 510.
sh: line 1: 15085 Broken pipe svnadmin dump /home/subversion
15086 Aborted | svndumpfilter include projects/2g include
jonathan/2g include livia/bcu include livia/vb >
/home/subversion.backups/bcu.20040329

Dumping on it's own is fine ... it's just filtering that seems to be the
problem. Memory usage ticks
up towards the 1Gig mark for svndumpfilter and I assume it bails because of
this at some point. I
added extra swap space but it's not exhausting the machine. ulimit says
'unlimited'. No kernel OOM
killer messages either.

I'm using a slightly old version of subversion (it's a pain to upgrade all
the clients):
subversion-0.35.1-8085
subversion-tools-0.35.1-8085
subversion-python-0.35.1-8085
subversion-server-0.35.1-8085

I've dug around on google and on tigris and I can't find obvious references
to excessive memory
usage in svndumpfilter.

Any ideas????

thank you!
