Hi Phillip,

thanks, I found the problem: I was configuring with
--with-{apr,apr-util,apache} and not --with-apxs.

I wonder: if --with-apxs is required, and the other options
will not work, why do they exist at all?

shouldn't subversion also compile with --with-apache (and the
path to the apache source)? or will that only work in some situations?
if so, can the configure script made to check the situation and
fail if the wrong method is used?

compile errors such as this are very difficult to understand for
most people, so it should be prevented from happening.
