Marking certain files read-only on checkout

Is it possible to configure svn to mark certain file types as read-only on
checkout ?
This combined wih the ability to lock files for exclusive access would make
svn
work well for us. We use devstudio and need this functionality for solution
and project
files which are for all intents and purposes 'binary', i.e. non-mergeable.
