svn update failing with FC1 subversion

From: Ian Burrell <ian_at_znark.com>

I just upgraded to Fedora Core 1 and am trying out the included
subversion, 0.32.1-1. I get errors when upgrading an existing working
directory. This happens with both local and remote repositories. For
example, when trying to update the subversion working directory from
http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk, I get:

subversion$ svn up
svn: No such file or directory
svn: svn_io_open_unique_file: error opening '.svn/tmp/tempfile.tmp'

I tried cleaning up the working directory:

subversion$ svn cleanup .
svn: No such file or directory
svn: svn_io_remove_dir: removing 'ac-helpers/.svn/tmp'

The permissions are standard on the directory.
