It is a very bad idea to have either repositories or working copies on
network shares, so I hope that's not what you meant by connecting to a
share.

Otherwise, in addition to what Stefan suggested, another thing to check
is that in the TortoiseSVN settings -> Icon Overlays, you should have
Network Drives unticked. (Typically only Fixed Drives should be ticked
in that section.)
