thank you for the explanation. I am happy to hear, that it was a design decision and not some arbitrary result of implementation.

Does that decision imply, that I cannot easily see the log of a file that is deleted in HEAD, but still present in my WC revision?

I do agree, that my use case is rare. And I can imagine that people might be confused, if they have to realize that path/file_at_3 and path/file_at_5 have a different history although both are named "path/file". For me, that is the whole idea of having a versioning system that does support renaming :)

So, I do support your decision.
