Frequent poll affect SVN performance?

Hi,
Currently, we have a few Jenkins jobs configured to poll SVN every single minute to look for check-ins to initiate a build. I was wondering if setting the poll at a high frequency such as this, affects SVN's performance.

Lately, we have been experiencing a slight lag(up to 20secs) when checking in code with SVN or performing an update. Is there a way I can monitor the response time to test and see if this lag is related to our current frequency of poll in Jenkins?

I will appreciate any input in this matter.

Thanks,
Reagan
