I did specify ".png" the first time but I tried it again anyway and it still didn't work. However, what I did this time was re-open the Diff Viewer --> Advanced settings to make sure my .png alternate program setting was really there and it wasn't. ?? So I re-added it again and this time I clicked "Apply" on the main "Settings" window and then clicked "OK" (before I just hit the OK button without clicking apply). And now it's working and my .png setting in the "Advanced" window is still there when I re-open the settings window.
Either way - i'm happy now. Thanks!
