svn co hangs

My project in svn includes a folder containing about 17 png files. Upon checking out the folder containing the images, the checkout command hangs (command line and/or TortoiseSVN).
TortoiseSVN is 1.7.11 Win7
Clues? Very consistent. Is there a log file with detailed error message, new user here, sorry.
