Where, exactly, in the Windows Explorer hierarchy are you looking at the working copies? In a directory on an actual fixed drive? On a Windows share?

Or is it, under Windows 7, under the "Desktop\Your Name" node, which is just an alias for C:\users\UserName.

As I noted in another thread recently (to no response whatsoever), when I created a new node using the DOS subst command:
  subst m: C:\users\me\projects
all the Subversion subdirectories under that new Explorer node showed the overlays properly.

I should also mention that TortoiseHg does not have the same problem; the Mercurial directories I have right next to those Subversion directories show overlays correctly no matter how I access them via Explorer.
