My Suggestions are:

- Add some kind of Border with a label to mark those ads as "Advertisment".

- Add a "Donate" button.

- Add a "Flattr" button.

How about replacing the add space with a big 'Donate' button that allows easy donations?
If the revenues are really as low as 'just a few pizza's now and then', I don't see why it would be a problem.
I really like the TSVN product, but cannot find any sympathy for the way ads are shown on the tortoisesvn.net<http://tortoisesvn.net> site. I agree with the observations that the ads are difficult to separate from the actual site content. A simple border and/or textual hint like 'Ads from Google' would improve clarity hugely, as would moving the ads to a less prominent position on the page. I have disabled javascript for this site to suppress them.
