Garbage in -> Garbage out is fair enough by me, i just thought you might be interested in making Tortoise more defensive against incorrect usage.

What else did you expect to happen?
You've set an external on folder1 to folder2, but folder2 has an
external to folder1. That's a recursive setup. And so the checkout
recurses indefinitely.

Garbage in -> garbage out.
That's the way it is.
