Bug Report: Right Click for Context Menu Crashes Windows Explorer

I recently installed the most recent 64 bit version of Tortoise (1.7.6) on a Windows 7 - 64 bit machine.
The install seems to complete successfully, however I believe the installer corrupts one or more of the context menu handlers...

After installation, If I open windows explorer, and then right click on any drive, folder, or file... the display blinks, the "waiting" icon spins for a second, and Windows explorer immediately crashes.
If I right click on "My computer" again the display blinks, the "waiting" icon spins for a second, and then nothing happens ... no submenu presented.

If I uninstall the Tortoise program, my right click for a context menu will again work as it should.

I have tried reinstalling the application, and again I have the same problems related to the context menu.
I have tried "Repairing" the installation, but the issue persists.
I have tried a system restore to a point before the original Tortoise install.... Again the context menus will work fine.
And then when I reinstalled Tortoise yet again after the system restore, the issue returns.

Any advice on how I can resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan
