I've tested it in Windows 7 (32 bit) and it seems to work fine now.
But now I've got another issue, it doesn't show the overlay icons when a project is checked out in C:\Users\<windowsAccount>. I verified that it *does* show the overlay icons when I check out the same project somewhere else (not in C:\Users\). I verified the registry that the number of overlay icons used in explorer is less than 15 (it is 9 in my case), so that is not the problem.
