Nosir, I've tried clean, update, new checkout, what I've found other folks
attempting throughout the ether. No such luck.

As for the file:// thing, yessir, I've brought this to the attention of my
clients, they should really be running a proper Subversion server, not least
of which for this very reason.

VisualSVN works very well; or other flavors.
