Having the same issue

I would love to test out a fix also, I have the same issue (using two certs), here is the info if it helps.

1) I get prompted to enter my key phrase if I have the smartcard incerted

2) I get prompted to insert smart card if I don't have it in, clicking cancel prompts over and over again then stops and finishes the checkout. Using the Repo browswer prompts over and over making it unusable

Note: If I remove the cert from IE (when using the smart cart it stores the cert here), I get a message saying "No Certificate Available", but I can click ok or cancel and proceed. I only get this prompt every so often, not repeated like the 'insert smartcard' message.
