working copy locked - problems with 1.7.1

Ok. So if you cancel during an update/commit it can (usually maybe?) cause future synchronizes with the folder to fail with an "Error: Working Copy Locked." In the older versions, you could just delete the folder, perform an update and transfer back any updated files. With version 1.7, the .SVN folder is stored at the root and so this doesn't help at all.

Does anyone know a workaround for this issue when using 1.7?
