You lost the icons because a 1.7 client can't deal with a
1.6-formatted working copy. It's a manual upgrade this time around.

Did you reboot? The DLL can't be reloaded unless you reboot or...I
forget the other way. It's best to just reboot.

Download 1.7 (you probably got an old/bad mirror) & try again.
