Tortoise is letting me down.

I have used the latest Tortoise version for a couple of months. But on monday it had stopped working:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please sse the application event log for more detail."

This is what the event viewer says:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\bin\TSVNCache.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . A component version required by the application conflicts with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.4148_none_5090ab56bcba71c2.manifest. Component 2: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30304.0_none_d9c474bda3593bfa.manifest.

I have uninstalled VS 2005 and the c++ executables for vS 2005 and 2008, but that didn't make any difference. I rolled back to an earlier Tortoise version. Apparently it works, but since I've been using the latest release I don't get commit and update access.

I even tried to rename one of the conflicting files in the manifest folder, but that didn't make a difference either. I have no idea what's going on in the winsxs folder, but I understand that there are plenty of opportunities in there to basically destroy the operative system. So I didn't keep up with the experimentation.

Please, anyone. I need help.
