how far back svn saves revision data

is there a limit on how far back svn saves revision data? does it "roll it up" at some point? i'm looking at my log and it shows revisions 158 through 257 but doesn't show anything prior to 158. it's an 8-month-old report but it's only listing revisions for the last 3 months.
