The file came directly from a Linux webserver via `svn import` - it's a
file
automatically generated by the legacy backend software. The working
copy
also lies on a Linux machine, accessed on the Windows stations via
Samba.

Unfortunately, that's not an option as some pieces of code depend on
it.

So if I understand it correctly, the error message is actually
triggered by
Windows not being able to access that path due to an invalid
character?
