  There are two statements in this sentence, both false.
  In fact,
  1. you can have anything matching a svn:ignore pattern in the
  repository;
  2. if there is anything in the repository, it will be checked out,
  regardless of any svn:ignore patterns.

  Do read the manual, will you?
