Folks,

I just had a similar problem and found a solution that I post here not to let my fellows get into the same trap.

For some reason my C: drive got dirty and I needed to run chkdsk c: /f

That was possible only after booting from Windows Vista Installation CD to get into the recovery environment.

After running chkdsk several times until it found no errors the installation went OK.

I suspect that MS Installer creates a recovery point during the installation process and dirty disk prevents it from doing that (no manual recovery point was possible either).

Would it be possible to make the error message more meaningful than 0x800736B3?
