Diff and three way diff when updating

When updating the working copy, the default action when double
clicking updated item is to open it in the default editor. Is it
possible to change this so that the default action would be to show a
diff against the working copy base version? Similar to this, after
merging a file during update, is it possible to change the default
action to 3 way merge preview?

When trying to examine files during the update, it sounds more likely
that the user is trying to see the changes in the update instead of
the changes in the working copy.
