SVN Rename resulted in error

We are using subversion 1.5.4 with tortoise 1.6.1 and had the following occur:
See the picture attachment to this item for all the screenshots of my efforts.

I tried to rename a directory, which is normally not a problem. I ran an SVN Update on my branch to be sure I had absolutely everything up to date prior to my change.

Knowing that just renaming a file using windows explorer results in SVN exploding, I did the smart thing and right clicked on the folder, choosing "SVN Rename"

After the rename, I chose to commit my change to my branch, so I went up a level and told the parent folder to 'Commit'. It showed me in the change log that it was going to delete the old folder and add the new folder with all of it's contents, which looked right to me, so I told it OK.

Next it gave me an error, saying that one of the files under the 'to be added' folder already exists! Well that's just odd, so I opened up the repo browser to see. No, sure enough not only did the file not exist, but the folder itself didn't exist.. so I'm a little confused as to why it thinks it exists.

Is there a restriction in tortoise that limits renaming to files only?
