I believe that was the key. I was in a subfolder of the checkout, and so not all of the revisions were in the list. I did manage to cheat my way past it, by reverting a file, opening my IDE, (to bypass the annoying error message I'd been getting) updating the directory, and then saving over the "most recent" version with the older one. worked like a charm. But now I know how to get to the correct log, so this won't be as bad a problem in the future.
