So, you've been annoyed for how long?
Next time, I suggest you take a look first at the settings dialog. In
the 'Generals' tab, there's a nice option "Automatically check for newer
versions every week' with a checkbox right next to it.

Also, you might want to look at the docs on how to redirect that check
so you can keep the check enabled but decide yourself for your team when
it's time to upgrade:
