Tortoise 1.6.1 kills file explorer

Since upgrading from 1.6.0 to 1.6.1, several users have experienced a killer slowdown of file explorer operations. Rebooting can fix it but subsequent reboots can re-introduce the problem. CPU usage is very low. On rebooting when the problem exists, XP cannot kill process TSVNCache.exe so I'd guess this is the problem. Anybody else had this or got a solution?
