Unversion one single folder?

I am having the following problem:
I have an active live website, and I'm trying to do a brand new checkout of the entire site down to a new computer. The site is already pretty big and checkout takes a long time, almost 4 hours.

I keep getting errors at this one single folder, which makes the whole checkout fail. The folder is the one that contains the images being posted and edited by the active community. At times it's a name which is posted incorrectly, other times its a single file that is missing.

I don't want to touch the folder that is on the server, being used by the community, but since it is not necessary to continue development, I want to unversion this particular folder, WITHOUT AFFECTING it at all on the live server.

What can I do? I do not have a complete version of the folder on my computer. I was able to do a checkout at the server, via ssh client. If anybody knows the correct way to unversion it, using ssh client, I'm all ears.
Thanks a bunch!
