Compare revisions yields odd results

I have reverted a whole revision to get it back to how it was before, and all went well but when checking it some anomalies appeared.
In the 'log messages' dialog I select the two revisions and then click 'show differences as a united diff' it says 'no differences found' - all good.
If now I click 'compare revisions' instead, I get a list of changed files. Clicking on any of these files and selecting 'compare revisisions' opens the matching files with the diffing tool with no differences shown.
So, should these files have been in the 'changed files' list at all?
