Effectively yes, it made me see where I was making the mistake. I now see that branch/tag and left-click-drag actually work in the same way, which is reassuring. I was fooled into thinking they worked in a slightly different way because I was doing branch/tag on a folder but left-click-drag on an individual item. I now see that item vs folder created the difference, not repo-copy vs branch/tag.
