Feature request: Provide option to prevent updates if files/folders have hidden attribute turned on

Would it make sense to have an option (which was turned off by default) to allow updates to ignore (i.e., 'not update') hidden folders/files?

Subject: kludge request: how to update directory but ignore (not update) some versioned files?

Not asking for a feature, just asking for any way to exclude one or more versioned files when updating an entire directory structure. Something as simple as setting the files to read-only (which doesn't work). Anybody done that?
