Error: cannot find the file specified. Possibly related to Samba

From: Peter <Peter_at_smart-projects.net>

I wrongly reported a problem I'm experiencing in another thread, so
starting new.

I reported this problem:

<>
Command: Commit
Modified: D:\Htm pages\Web\en\templates\news.tpl
Sending content: D:\Htm pages\Web\en\templates\news.tpl
Error: Commit failed (details follow):
Error: Can't remove 'P:\Htm pages\REPOS Web\db\transactions

Error: cannot find the file specified.
Finished!:
</>

And received this feedback:

> We've mentioned this several times before: DO NOT access a repository via file:/// on a network share!
> If you're share is SAMBA, check the FAQ: http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/faq.html#samba

Kindly allow me to ask a few more questions, so that I understand the
problem better, and so that I can act appropriately.

First, I don't know if it's a samba share, but it is possible, it's a
Buffalo Terabyte Server ? Upgrading Samba on server side is not
possible as far as I know.

I never had this problem before, the repository exists for years now
and I have always worked with this drive letter etc. I did not
realise it is not the proper way to do it.

The link you provided suggests the problem manifests itself more since
version 1.5.x

Q1. As a quick and dirty fix, is it possible for me to go back to my
previous installation (1.4.x) ? Or has the Repository changed now so
that going back is not possible anymore ? I'm not suggesting that
this is my preferred fix, it's just one of the options I would like to
understand, to see if it is possible ?

Q2. The suggested fix in the provided link says:

> ... allow readonly files to be deleted in the SAMBA config file

I don't really understand enough of all this, so what is the impact of
this setting ? Will I lose data ? Or will I have less
functionality ? Is it easy to explain what this does really ?
And also, will I be able to continue working the way I do then ? Or
do I still need to change other things ?
Also, where do I find this samba settings file ? I looked in the
TortoiseSVN installation folder but ... ?

I'm sure my questions are ignorant and "obvious" to the experts but
I'm not an expert, so I appreciate your help.
