Well it's been so long that I needed to provide my credentials to a subversion repository, that I actually forgot how the dialog looks like. Maybe the user name is masked with '*'s, although I would neither understand why Stefan would implement something like that.

But I'm pretty sure there's a "remember password" checkbox at the bottom, which, after you have provided correct credentials, will prevent TortoiseSVN or the SVN CL client from asking you again.

BTW: are you sure that you posted to the correct user list? You are talking about 'svn update', which sounds like you are referring to the command line client to me. This list is for TortoiseSVN, the GUI for the SVN libraries.

The svn CL client also has a switch that allows you to permanently store the password for a given server.
